RE: Class A Motorhome Gasser

wtmtnhiker....What did you decide on? Hello, I have looked at 7 motorhomes from 2006 to 2012 and every single one had a serious water leak that the owners denied any knowledge of. Some i believed some not. Still looking. Likely will end up with a Ford chassis just because they're more numerous but never know.

RE: 2011 Winnebago Sightseer

Thanks for all the replies. I decided not to buy it. I was just going to take for a test drive. The windshield privacy curtain was blocking my view and as I pushed it back I noticed a whole in the side just aft of the driver's window revealing a water leak and rotted wood. Not sure how extensive the damage was but it looked like the rot went from at least from above the window to the floor based on the condition of the wallpaper and the punky feel as I pressed on the sidewall. Very disappointed. I looked for water leaks early on in the process. Thought I did a good job but for some reason I didn't pull back that curtain. Feel like I got lucky and dodged a bullet. I think you dodged a bullet there. Plenty of nice units out there. Keep looking, you’ll find one that’s perfect! Yes and you were right in your previous post!!

RE: Water heater

I forget what they call it but it is using engine coolant to heat water when on the road. OKAY, that makes sense, thank you.

Water heater

Hi all, Looking at the back of my Winnebago water heater there is the usuaal pex pipe, valves and fittings. There are also two hoses that look like automotive heater hoses. They go in to either side of what looks like a pipe welwded to the tank. Anyone can know what they are for? Thanks.

2011 Winnebago Sightseer

Hi all, I found a decent looking low mileage (23,000) 2011 Winnebago Sightseer. The current (2nd) owned has had it for two seasons over which time he started suffering from dementia. He drove when he shouldn't have sideswiped something damaging one of the storage compartment doors on the left side. Worst of all last fall it didn't get winterized and the result at a minimum is a new water heater, some pvc fittings and a new toilet or toilet valve. The fresh water tank had never been used and the grey and black water tanks don't seem to be leaking. I put low air pressure (15 lbs) to the system after bypassing the water heater and blocking off the toilet line. Far as I could tell it held air although the cracked fittings were letting some air out. The price is right but I'm wondering if this is something I should walk away from. I think the damage is minimal but not sure. The price is low enough below average list that I can comfortably put 8k to 10k into it (including new tires) doing all the other work myself. Thoughts/opinions are appreciated.

RE: motorhome pricing

Correction, wouldn't budge off of 38,000 not 28,000

RE: motorhome pricing

Thanks to all that replied. I decided not to buy this motorhome based on price. He actually had it listed for 45,0000. Wouldn't budge off of 28,0000

motorhome pricing

Hi all, I'm looking at an older 2005 motorhome. It has been meticulously cared for and is in excellent condition except for some faded and peeling decals. It has very low mileage at 14,458. For the last 3 years it has been going to Florida and Maine from New Hampshire so hasn't been sitting. Previous owners I'm told used it sparingly but that it didn't sit around for long periods of time. To those who have experience with this and giving them the benefit of the doubt as far as not sitting too long, how much if any over list does the low mileage and excellent condition add to the list price. He's also throwing in a Patriot towing system (tow bar and braking device) which has good value. Average retail is 27,800 (according to J.D. Power) and asking price is 38,000. It's an Allegro Open Road on a Workhorse Chassis. Thanks for reading

Motorhomes with 19.5 vs 22.5 tires

Hi all, I'm looking for a gasser motorhome. Talking to someone who works on them said that a coach with 19.5 tires will not handle very well and only look at coaches with 22.5 tires. I had not heard that before. He said the 19.5 coaches are a smaller chassis and will be harder to handle in wind etc. Opinions from those with experience would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at 2 different ones both on workhorse chassis and both with 245/70R/19.5 tires. Thanks

Fuel pump

Hi all, Do any of you know how much a fuel pump would cost parts and labor for a 2011 Winnebago Sightseer V-10? Anyone had one done?. I'm looking at buying a motorhome that needs one and just looking to find out about what it would cost Saturday afternoon, most repair shops closed. Thanks

Class A Motorhome Gasser

Hi all, I'm trying to decide between 2 motorhomes. One is a 2005 with a GM drivetrain 8.1 engine and Allison transmission with 11,430 miles. The other is a 2006 with the Ford V-10 drive train and 34,000 miles. I remember reading that the Fords had trans issues on some earlier years but were improved upon later. To those of you who know what year did they make that upgrade to the Ford tranny? Also should I be worried about the very low mileage on the 2005? Both of these coaches meet my price point and look to be in very nice condition with floor plans that I like. Thanks for reading , any thoughts and input are appreciated.

Looking at a class A to buy

I found a 2007 Fleetwood Southwind 37c that looks very nice. It is about 500 miles away from where I live so I want to make sure it's worth the trip to go look. It has 38000 miles on a Ford V-10 and is priced at 50K. I looked it up on NADA and they have it priced at 40K. Looking at similar units on RV Trader it's priced in the ball park. With 38K miles assuming proper maintenance would this coach have a reasonably long life, say to 100K miles or more? I have had a diesel pusher in the past so I'm somewhat familiar but not sure how the gas will be for longevity and also cabin noise. Any comments or insight is appreciated. I don't know much about Fleetwood but I'm doing some research. Thanks.
